Influence of porosity and permeability of flow distributor on thermal stratification in single media storage tank

A single media tank system is emerging as a promising technology for thermal energy storage. The incorporation of porous flow distributor in such leads to significant improvement the stratification tank. performance depends upon structure wall. influence on well documented; however, combined effect porosity and permeability thermocline thickness not yet explored. objective present study is, therefore, investigate interdependent wall storage system. numerical analysis performed evaluate establishment progress wide range wall-permeability vertically mounted distributor. minimizing mixing analyzed through velocity temperature fields, number, MIX span logistic cumulative distribution function. Results show that between 10−9 m2 10−8 m2, best minimum among given configurations. Also, minimal achieved be ∼13% entire height which our knowledge, considerably lower than reported value literature.
